By 1856, the District was looking for a permanent custom house and funds were apropiated for what was then known as the Georgetown Custom House and Post Office. Designed by Ammi B. Young and completed in 1858, the style of the building provides for simplicity and generalization of classical elements while also lending a classical dignity to the structure. Over the years, it has accommodated the Mayor’s office and other municipal offices for Georgetown, but the first floor continues to serve as a US Postal Service office.
